MARTINIQUE’s mangrove covers an area of approximately 1800 hectares and represents about 6% of the forest area of the island. The mangrove plays an essential role in preserving the environment. Its role is to retain the sediments so that the seagrass beds situated at sea and the coral barriers located further offshore develop in good harmony. Situated on the edge of the coast, this very special coastal forest is home to many animal species.
