“When I reached home, I hugged my brother and sisters. I kissed the hands of my mother”.

11-year-old Jawad was relieved when he finally returned to the safety of his family.
When his father died last year, Jawad was left with the weight of the world on his shoulders as he suddenly became responsible for supporting his family. Like thousands of other families in Afghanistan, ongoing conflict has pushed them into poverty. Jawad felt he had no choice but to travel to Iran in search of work.
The journey was long and treacherous. He walked for two days through the mountains, with no food or water.
Once there, his situation worsened. He struggled to find work, slept in a cold construction site and lived in constant fear of being caught by the authorities. Desperate, he made the difficult decision to try and get home…
our Cultures Of Resistance foundation is proud to have supported @warchilduk who work around the clock to help children like Jawad!
