The Goethe-Institut Damascus was established in 1955 as one of the first outside of Germany, a second branch in Aleppo was opened in 2011 – however both had to be closed in 2012 due to the unsafe situation in Syria.

Tagged as Goethe-Institut Damascus in Exile, the Goethe in Sydney will have a series of events discuss artists in exile, international cultural exchange, and voices of artists from Syria, Germany, Australia, and beyond. They will be screening our film CULTURES OF RESISTANCE featuring Syrian calligrapher Mouneer A- Shaarani
Opening night:

Tuesday 21 March 2017, 6pm-9pm, free entry. Address: Goethe-Institut, 90 Ocean Street, Woollahra NSW 2025. Official opening of the Mouneer A- Shaarani Exhibtion and panel discussion about supporting the arts in difficult circumstances.
