Today we commemorate another AFRICA-FOR-AFRICANS leader assassination. 56 years ago today, Patrice Lumumba, the first legally elected prime minister of the Congo, was assassinated at the age of 35. The governments of Belgium, the United States, and the United Kingdom have all been accused of involvement in his murder. While alive, Lumumba strove to achieve democracy and national unity, and his legacy lives on in today’s grassroots organizing efforts in the DRC.
