Barefoot Seeds works with Tarahumara farmers in Mexico’s Copper Canyons to grow native varieties of corn and establish seed banks in their ancestral canyonlands. Barefoot Seeds also provides tools and assistance with water resources, soil conservation, and land protection. With the support of Cultures of Resistance, Barefoot Seeds began building seed banks and initiate seed growouts for two Tarahumara communities of 500 people. We also improved water quality and access through gravity-fed water pipes and storage reservoirs. We improved soil fertility through the use of cover crops and goat manure.
